According to the latest IHS report, the global optical network equipment market grew by 3% to US$12.5 billion in 2015.
Alex Green, senior director of IT and network research at IHS, said: “After experiencing the weakness of 3Q15, the global optical network equipment market achieved its best performance in 3Q15 for the past five years. Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent performed particularly well during the quarter. Shares have achieved significant growth over the previous quarter."
In 4Q15, the global optical network equipment market reached 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 17% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year increase of 10%. The WDM equipment market grew 18% year-on-year to US$3.1 billion.
The weak optical network spending in the EMEA market has not yet ended. In 2015, the market’s optical network spending fell by 3%. The North American market rebounded in 4Q15 following the flat performance of 3Q15, which enabled the region's annual optical network spending to achieve 5% growth.
The top five optical network equipment vendors in 2015 were: Huawei, Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE and Infinera. The optical network equipment vendors tracked in the IHS report include: ADTRAN, ADVA, Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, Cisco, Coriant, ECI, Fujitsu, Huawei, Infinera, NEC, Padtec, Transmode, TE Connectivity, ZTE and others.
